A kitchen fit for entertaining
Display Room
This spacious kitchen incorporates a hidden pantry, frosted glass cupboards and plenty of drawers for storage.
Artist and home owner Trudy was impressed with Enigma Design's display at a Brisbane home show. When she and her husband chose to renovate their new home in an open-plan Japanese style, Trudy recalled a striking Japanese kitchen design the company had on display and gave Enigma designer Lee Hardcastle a call.
Although the kitchen she had been so impressed with was in a rich blood red, Trudy chose to stick with a neutral white palette, offset with large glass splashback panels and stainless steel appliances and fittings. But her love of colour has not been completely quelled - vivid colours abound in features and accessories such as vases, candles and flowers.
"It was brought to my attention that you could get sick of a strong colour quickly," explains Trudy. "I use red in my decorative items so I can change them easily. You can change the look of the kitchen with just three items."
While it may look simple on the surface, this kitchen is cleverly equipped with a range of generous storage options, including nine drawers built into the spacious island bench and a hidden pantry tucked in behind the built-in bar, which spans the entire length of the kitchen. The convenient pantry lights up when you enter and neatly stashes away the family food supply. A frosted-glass door beside the double refrigerator conceals an upright vacuum.
As a mother who enjoys cooking and entertaining, Trudy is glad she spared no expense with her state-of-the-art design. An oversized oven, gas wok burners and a steam oven make the kitchen a home chef's dream. In fact, Trudy managed to feed a group of 28 for Christmas lunch.
"I'll never go back to cupboards now," she says. "The drawers are fantastic because they automatically close, so I can knock them shut with my hip. It's especially good if you've got your hands full."
