When it comes to home entertainment systems, it's hard to top this.
Before Alex and Shay bought their new home, the original owners of the property called Jon from Beconnected with the idea that they wanted the best of everything for their home. A three-level cabana that is separate from the main residence was to be fitted out with three home theatres, and a security system with intelligent lighting completed the job.
The system that Jon set up is totally state of the art. "The most important element is the processor that controls all the equipment. It's the brain that hooks everything up and is the most expensive item for the fit-out," Jon says.
DVD players, the pay-TV output box, camera DVR, tuners and a media and audio centre are all hidden in a 2.3 metre high roll-out rack that is attached to the wall in an umbilical cord of cables. Also on top level are security, data and intelligent lighting features. There are portable touch-screen controls that allow the owners to select a music playlist, as well as any movie playing on DVD or one downloaded from the internet, and multiple TV channels.
All the cameras are monitored by a 15-inch pen tablet in the kitchen, which is also connected to the internet. The telephone system is also used as an intercom and gate controller.
New home owner Alex has tailored the setup for his needs - he installed a gym, and watches TV or listens to music as he does his workout. "The system came with the house and we were happy to take it," he says. "I carry the central processor unit around and select what I need when I'm in there."
Alex loves the design features of the home. Jon's design for the place is so streamlined that you can't even see the projector, as it's hidden inside the ceiling so only the glass projection unit shows. When the screen isn't needed, it rolls up into the ceiling.
Because different music and movies can be played in each of the three rooms at different times, Alex believes his two children will love the space when they're older. "Kids tend to be into that kind of stuff, so I'd say they'll love it. They can download their DVDs and CDs and just go for it."
